AFJROTC is an all volunteer program offered as a .5 credit elective for any or all four years of high school here at Homestead Senior High. It counts as one of your Physical Education requirements (although you do need to take another elective for credit) but it allows you to belong to any of the HSHS Magnet Programs or majors programs simultaneously.
If you start as a freshman (you must be at least a level 3) and successfully complete each year (through your junior year), you will then qualify to enter any of the US military services as an E-3 versus an E-1. What does this mean?..... How about almost $200 more per month and two ranks higher than another recruit who did not do JROTC! Not bad eh?
Also, if you are college bound and have the grades to be competitive for scholarships, as a JROTC cadet you are eligible for separate scholarships available to only JROTC cadets. Imagine being part of only 10% of those applying for college who can apply for a scholarship... cuts the odds down considerably doesn't it?
